About our Judge: Roger Garcia

Roger Garcia is a self-taught illustrator, art preparator and educator based in Edmonton, Alberta on Treaty 6 Territory. Roger works in acrylics, gouache, ink, and digital media. His artistic practice is grounded in sharing family stories with themes of grief, resilience and healing.

He has contributed to the Edmonton arts community for many years by facilitating drawing and painting workshops for children, youth, and adults. He has worked in schools, galleries, at community festivals and events, sharing his skills to foster creativity across generations.


Our independent judges are chosen from the wider artist community for their knowledge and experience in the visual arts. They are subject matter experts who bring a fair and professional view to our selection process. To keep things unbiased, each judge is only used once every 24 months. They are completely independent from our organization and make their decisions without any input from our staff or board. All decisions made by the judges are final, helping to ensure a transparent and fair process.
