  1. Eligibility

Alberta Photographers age 18 and over are eligible to enter provided they meet the rules. To conform to the spirit of the awards all work must be original and completed within the last two years and not previously shown in any show in the Spruce Grove Art Gallery {Including OAC or Senior’s Shows}.

No copies from other artists or from published material will be allowed. Proof of originality may be required. All work must be labelled on the back with the artwork’s title, size, medium, price and your name.

PHOTOGRAPHY: All levels of photography – Beginner to Advanced.  Digital Art is included.

NOTE: Granting of Awards: The granting of any or all awards in each of the categories is left totally to the discretion of the judge’s panel, and they will only grant awards to the art that they feel meets their standards and their selection is final and binding.

  1. Dates, Times and Location

Entry Deadline: Saturday, June 2, 2018

Delivery of artwork: Saturday, June 23, 2018, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. **All packaging materials must be removed at time of delivery. Deliver to Spruce Grove Art Gallery, 35-5th Avenue, Spruce Grove, Alberta. [Located in the Melcor Cultural Centre on the east side of King Street Plaza].

NOTE: If you are unable to deliver your art on that date, please make arrangements for someone else to deliver if for you, as we do not have storage space. All cartons, boxes, etc. must be removed at time of delivery.

Artists are responsible for coordination and payment of all shipping of art to and from the show location, with the arrival of art on or as near to delivery date as possible, if they are not able to deliver the work in person on the said date.

Reception and awards presented:  Saturday, June 30th, 2018 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. 

Public Viewing: Tuesday, June 26th, 2018, 10:00 am – Friday, July 20th, 2018 

Gallery Hours: Monday – Saturday – 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Pick-up of all artwork: Saturday, July 21, 2018 – 10 am to 2 pm 

Location: Spruce Grove Art Gallery – 35 – 5th Avenue, Spruce Grove

  1. Entry form and fee

Artists may submit up to three (3) photographs with a combined total area no larger than 40” x 64” [ Length X Width = 2560 square inches]. Entry form must be completed and signed. Entry fee (see entry form) is to accompany entry form along with a typewritten CV / biography, resume and artist statement.

  1. Judging

All artwork will be viewed and judged by juror(s) with a high degree of photographic knowledge selected by the Allied Arts Council.

NOTE: Please be aware that should your art be rejected at delivery for non-compliance to our Standards, no refunds will be issued for any entry fees paid. Please read and adhere to all guidelines very carefully.

  • All framing must be archival. Matting and all other materials used in mounting must be acid free.
  • Wire must be installed as shown in the attached diagram, which shows correct and incorrect ways of hanging paintings.
  • No clip frames, claw hooks, wire loops, string, bailer twine, nails or notches cut into frames will be accepted.
  • Frames may be purchased anywhere, as long as the product is archival (mat board) and properly wired.

Photography/Digital Art – The artist (photographer) must be directly involved in the creative process. This refers to all aspects of preparing to photograph a subject, such as equipment types (film or digital camera), lighting and composition.  Images may be enhanced or altered using photographic applications; e.g. Adobe Photoshop.  Photographs must be printed on professional quality support.  Photographs must be displayed according to current Allied Arts Council standards.

  1. Insurance

All artists are responsible for carrying their own insurance on artwork while it is on display at the Spruce Grove Art Gallery. The Allied Arts Council/Spruce Grove Art Gallery is not responsible for damage or theft of art while in the Spruce Grove Art Gallery.

  1. Commission

A 25% commission fee to the Allied Arts Council will be charged on all sales.

  1. Reception

All participating artists are encouraged to attend the Saturday afternoon reception and award presentation. Artists may pick-up exhibition cards for their guests.

The AAC reserves the right to refuse any photograph that does not meet the criteria set out in the general rules and regulations of this competition and the AAC Standards
