Acrylic (Beginners/Intermediate) – Majestic Mountains

Capture the majestic mountains of the Rockies, with palette knife and brush strokes as Cindy leads you through the basics of acrylic painting.  Along with colour usage and mixing, brush stroke and techniques such as palette knife and simplifying shapes, you will learn how to paint a marvellous mountain scene.

* 2 designs and photo reference for 8×10” or 9×12” canvasses will be supplied or bring your own reference photos.    Supply list available at the gallery

Drawing the Human Figure

Oil Painting – Basic

Learn how to create a simplified Canadian landscape using the traditional medium of oil paint.  This class will teach the basics of oil painting included under painting, colour mixing and mediums.  Create an amazing work of art and fall in love with the deliciousness of oil paint.  Participants with some background in painting preferred.  Supply list available at the gallery.

Batik with Oriental Papers and Watercolour

Batik is an ancient method of painting on pretty papers and fabrics using wax as a resist and preservative. We will create several vignettes on fancy Oriental paper. This is an exciting and creative workshop and a new twist for water colour! A creative and exciting method for gifts and a rejuvenated ancient art form.  You will have a few wonderful creations at the end of the day.  No experience is necessary.  Dianna is a published artist in Batik workshop methods.

A Thousand Words – Portraits (12 – up)

This workshop will introduce you to both the human and animal form.  You will learn proper preportioning to create a sense of realism in your piece while being en courage to jazz it up to make it your own.  You will be presented with a photograph and throughout the day it will be your challenge, through techniques learned to recreate it in your own way.  It will be challenging and fun and by the end you will never look at any being the same way again. Fabric Sculpting- “Just in time for Mother’s Day”

A new art form in which you make a frame out of electrical wire and sculpt it with aluminum foil and mould it into the shape you want.  Then use an old T-Shirt or something similar and dip this in a fabric hardener, wrapping and draping it around the object. After it has dried you enhance it with different type of highlighters, such as metallic paint etc.  The results are fantastic! Even people who think they are not creative are surprised with their results.  Some supplies included and the other supply list available at the gallery.

In this 1 day workshop you will explore the versatile medium of coloured pencil through demonstrations and one-on-one guidance. You will learn different mark-making and blending techniques and how to layer colours to create depth and richness in your drawings. Manga with Mandi (Age 10 to 16)

American cartooning is one thing, but if you’re inspired by the large eyed, tipped nosed, big haired art style that is Anime and Manga from Japan; this is the class for you! Mandi has been an avid anime artist since 2004 and is willing to teach you the skills required to become a manga-ka (manga artist) too, someday! During this workshop you will acquire skills in pencil, line art, and coloring of various mediums. Make friends and have fun with a little bit of culture and a lot of art
