The Allied Arts Council is a non-profit, charitable organization where artists, both amateur and professional, meet to encourage and help each other in a friendly environment. They operate the Spruce Grove Art Gallery.
Its aims and objectives are:
- To educate and increase the public’s understanding and appreciation of the arts by working within the community to improve the standards, quality and range of artistic expression.
- To encourage more people to participate in artistic activities by proving art classes, shows, workshops and awarding art scholarships.
Meetings
General Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. (except in July & August) whereby a short business meeting is followed by either a guest speaker, a demo or a critique of member’s artwork by an invited professional artist, curator, instructor or by the membership present. The Executive Meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month at 5:30: p.m.
Membership
Your first step in applying to join the Allied Arts Council is to attend one monthly meeting, as a guest, in order to determine if AAC meets your goals. All applications for membership are considered and when you wish to show your work in the Spruce Grove Art Gallery, you will be asked to submit the following to the Standards Committee for jurying: Three (3) pieces of art in your medium or mediums.
If you are a painter, the paintings should be framed or matted as required by the medium used, and to gallery standards. Your submissions must have been produced within the past two years. They must be of your own composition (i.e. not done in class or with the help of an instructor or copied from a photograph, print or painting other than your own) and executed in any media noted in the Standards for Members. Evaluations will take place at 6:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month, except for July & August. (During these 2 months, evaluations will be on an as needed basis.)
Duties of Members
Being part of the AAC membership means involvement such as attending monthly General Meetings regularly (four meetings must be attended each year to qualify to enter the Juried Active Members Show) and volunteering to serve on committees. If you wish to show your work in the Spruce Grove Art Gallery, you must first complete the required 25 hours of volunteer time outlined in the current AAC Policies, unless you are 75 years of age in which case volunteer hours are not required. Membership may not be suitable for persons who would often be absent from meetings due to work, distance from Spruce Grove or other commitments, and who would be unable to participate in many of the Club’s activities.
Upon acceptance as a member, you will be asked to pay the annual membership fee of $40.00 (due by January 1st each year). Once you have volunteered for the required number of hours you may bring the appropriate number of pieces of art into the gallery for hanging on the next gallery rotation. (AAC Gallery Standards & Policies). You must be a member in good standing for a period of one year and must have attended a minimum of four (4) General Meetings during this year, in order to be eligible to enter the Juried Active Members Show.
